Sawyer’s Arms makes history with the launch of 3D TV

-Arsenal vs Manchester United: the world’s first live sports 3D TV broadcast -

Manchester’s Sawyer’s Arms was selected as one of only 9 pubs nationwide to launch 3D TV on Sunday 31st January.

Thanks to Sky’s brand new technology, the Premier League clash between Arsenal and Manchester United was filmed in 3D and broadcast over the Sky platform with customers becoming the first audiences anywhere in the world to experience live Premier League in 3D.

Sawyer’s Arms General Manager, Jess Harris explains, “The Sawyer’s Arms was very excited to be one of the first pubs in the UK to showcase 3D TV.  Our customers were impressed and unanimously agreed they’d choose 3D over 2D.  The close-ups and low camera angles made the most of the technology and everyone was glued to the screen for the whole 90 minutes.”

To support the landmark broadcast, the Sawyer’s Arms was kitted out with some of the first ‘3D Ready’ TV sets.   Sky 3D works with all existing Sky+HD boxes and will also be compatible with all 3D Ready TVs coming to the UK this year.

Simon Dodd, Orchid's Commercial Director adds, “The Orchid Group embraces change and will always seek to lead industry innovation.  As such, and with the ever changing shape of sport in pubs, Orchid believes 3D will add a point of difference to the on-trade and provide customers with a reason to visit.

If the feedback at The Sawyer’s Arms (both quantitative and qualitative) is positive we would look to roll 3D out to around 20% of our premium sport led businesses.  This combined with our stance on adding value through quality food & drink, and a well invested portfolio will, we believe, provide us with a competitive advantage.”
