A career in pub management is a satisfying and rewarding one so the training and development of all of our staff is very important to us. It's vital in ensuring everybody has the skills to perform at the highest levels and achieve business success.

Staff Training

Introduction

We offer a staff training programme that covers all aspects of working in a pub or restaurant. From Health & Safety to how to make the perfect coffee, It’s all covered in our staff training manual.

You will have your own workbook that your manager will take you through within 30 days of starting your employment with us. Once completed and you want to take on more responsibilities in the pub, then you can complete the supervisor training modules.

For our kitchen staff and food handlers, we have the kitchen training manual and workbook. This is on the job training has been verified and qualifies our staff to Basic Food Hygiene level.

In addition to the above staff training programmes, we also offer a wide range of NVQ’s. Nationally recognised Qualifications, that you can gain whilst in the workplace

Back to Basics

Back to Basics are additional monthly training sessions you will have with your manager.
These sessions help to ensure that we continue to develop and refresh your skills and knowledge on a regular basis.

Below are just a few of the subjects covered by Back to Basics:-
- Customer Service
- Wine training
- Licensing Law
- Respecting people in the workplace
- Complaint handling
- Selling skills

We also have Back to Basics sessions for the kitchen. These cover subjects like hygiene, stock rotation, date labelling and many more.

One day management development courses to help managers and deputies improve their skills in specific areas.

Steps to Excellence

Deputy Development program for the cream of the deputy estate who have ambition to progress their career.

Six modules covering management skills :-

Followed by an evaluation day to assess suitability to join the talent bank and take on their own pub with confidence

We offer the National Certificate for Personal License Holders for new managers into the business or as development progression for our assistant and deputy managers.

Managing your Investment

At Orchid we are committed to investing in all of our pubs and restaurants. Before spending any money on our pubs, we ensure our managers are fully prepared for their investment by putting them through our fantastic ‘Managing Your Investment’ day. By investing in our people as well as our pubs, our investments run smoothly and successfully.
